Abstract:

This paper presents design scheme of an improved,simple and passive wind catcher windows which can close automatically without external power supply in response to wind speeds exceeding safe limits so as to avoid damages due to winds and rains in a solar passive building. Design modifications to make them more successful in Indian context are discussed here. More complex and passive designs are feasible to accommodate larger windows and/or to withstand stronger winds by changing the locking mechanisms.
